Studio Execs Do Hollywood Shuffle

LOS ANGELES — Corporate streamlining began this week at 20th Century Fox Filmed Entertainment through what sources said Wednesday were job changes designed to put promotion and licensing executives closer to the units they usually work with.

Among the unexpected high-profile exits was that of Holly Beverly, vp national promotions at Fox’s theatrical unit. Joining Fox early last year from DreamWorks Consumer Products, the respected Beverly was part of the promotional team behind Fox’s summer 2000 hit, X-Men. Sources said Lisa Licht, svp in Fox’s Licensing & Merchandising unit, is slated to move over to theatrical and pick up some of Beverly’s promotional duties.

Also moving over to theatrical is Rita Prosyak, a Fox Consumer Products national promotions director who worked on film projects including this summer’s remake of Planet of the Apes.

In another unexpected move, sources said that Sabrina Ironside, vp worldwide promotions, is moving from Consumer Products to Fox synergy unit News Corp One, where she will fill the vacancy left by the February departure of worldwide promotions vp Paul Mikkalson. Ironside worked extensively on a 10-month global fanfest linked to Fox’s TV hit The Simpsons. Mikkalson also worked on the project with influential News Corp One senior vp Kayne Lanahan, to whom Ironside will now report. Ironside’s contacts in both TV and promotional circles were cited as reasons why she was hand-picked by Lanahan.

Consumer Products promotions director Anna Dodd, who handles video promotions, is heading to Fox’s video unit, sources said.

These senior staff changes come as L&M president Steve Ross is also expected to leave the unit, but likely will stay in the News Corp/Fox family, possibly in its sports division.

Other studio departures are expected shortly at Warner Bros. as the industry revamps in the face of an economic slowdown. (Brandweek, March 26).
