The market for jobs in advertising, media and marketing continues to be moribund, judging by the volume of help-wanted classified ads running in Adweek. While the percentage of decline was lower in October than it was earlier in the year, the base from which it’s shrinking is also smaller. October 2001 was not, after all, one of the stellar months in classifieds history, coming as it did when the initial shock of 9/11 was putting much commercial activity on hold. For better or worse, we’re approaching a point at which it will be hard for the pace of hiring to get any slower.
