Starcom Consumer Chief Departs

NEW YORK Steven Feuling, president, chief consumer officer at Publicis Groupe’s Starcom USA, resigned effective June 1, the agency has confirmed.

Feuling told Starcom CEO John Muszynski several months ago of his desire to return to the West Coast from Chicago, and he is currently mulling several job opportunities, according to sources.

His Starcom responsibilities included running the $200 million Macy’s account, which he helped bring to the shop in 2005. The client switched to WPP’s Mediaedge:cia at the end of last year without a review.

There was no direct link between Macy’s departure and Feuling’s decision to leave; in fact, Muszynski tried to convince him to stay, sources said.

Starcom issued a statement confirming that Feuling “has left the agency to pursue new opportunities on the West Coast. We wish him well in his career and new journey.”

Neither Feuling nor Muszynski was available for comment.

Feuling had been promoted to his post last August as part of a reorganization in which three presidents were named. His responsibilities are currently being handled by other members of the Starcom management team, pending a final decision regarding the permanent reassignment of his duties. That replacement will come from an internal pool of candidates, probably within the next several weeks, sources said.

Before the promotion, Feuling had been CMO at the shop; earlier in his career, he was svp, marketing at K-Mart.
