Star System in Final Round

Star Systems Inc., the largest ATM network in the country, is quietly nearing the end of an estimated $5-10 million account review.
Industry sources said the Maitland, Fla.-based company is down to two finalists.
“We’re in the late stages,” confirmed Star System director of advertising Barbara Span. “We do not have a hard date, but we intend to wrap it up in a few weeks.”
A consultant is handling the review on behalf of Star System. The search being conducted is nationwide, with incumbent agencies located on both coasts.
Arnold Communications in McLean, Va., was the agency of record for Honor Technologies Inc., which merged with Star System in March. Matthews/Mark in San Diego was the agency of record for Star System.
Neither agency was available to comment at press time on its participation in the review. Sources indicated, however, that both shops were defending the business and have made it to the final round.
The work for the client will include both a business-to-business effort aimed at financial institutions as well as consumer-oriented ads.
Said Span, “As we open more locations. . . we educate [the consumer] about places and ways to use their cards.”
The recent merger created the largest electronic funds transfer network in the country, with 70,000 ATMs and 400,000 merchant point-of-sale locations, processing an average of 185 million transactions per month.
