BOSTON — Staples today named nine semifinalists in the review for the creative portion of the office supply chain’s $70 million account.

In the running are: Bartle Bogle Hegarty; Bozell; Wieden + Kennedy; McCann-Erickson; and Grey’s Fresh Grey division, all in New York; Carmichael Lynch and Martin/Williams, Minneapolis; The Martin Agency, Richmond, Va., and Hill, Holliday, Connors, Cosmopulos, according to client officials.

Incumbent Cliff Freeman and Partners, New York, declined to defend the assignment it has held for eight years.
