SRI Launches PR Services

LOS ANGELES Select Resources International said it has added a public relations practice and appointed Dan Orsborn as senior partner to lead the division.

The new practice will serve SRI’s Fortune 500 clients by managing PR agency reviews, consulting on compensation and client/agency relations and training agencies on new-business best practices.

Orsborn, a 26-year PR industry veteran, has run the regional offices of Porter Novelli in Los Angeles and Edelman Worldwide in San Francisco. He also co-founded and built San Francisco PR firm The Orsborn Group and headed The Orsborn Group, a communications consulting firm in Nashville, Tenn. Orsborn has worked with clients including Bank of America, The Gap, Nortel and Warner Bros. Records, and was most recently an independent consultant.

“Dan’s twenty-six years in the public relations industry provides us with an in-depth understanding of the public relations process, as well as the agency landscape,” said Catherine Bension, president of SRI in Santa Monica, Calif., in a statement. “His leadership will be invaluable as we cultivate a growing desire on the part of marketers to raise the level of professionalism of the PR agency review process.”

Orsborn said he was drawn to SRI’s reputation in the industry and the quality of its work. “I’ve been in the public relations field for a long time and have been on the receiving end of managing reviews and have not always been really impressed,” he said, adding that SRI is “very well respected not only by clients but by ad agencies.” In addition, Orsborn said, “I’ve been involved in hundreds of new business presentations, I’ve managed a lot of big PR programs and have consulted with people on compensation and fit issues. This fits my experience perfectly.”

SRI has managed PR reviews for clients such as Carpet One and Timberland.
