Spanfeller Moves To Forbes Online Post

Ziff Davis Media veteran Jim Spanfeller has been named CEO of Forbes.com and to a new position as executive vp of electronic publishing at Forbes.

He will oversee all strategic and operational aspects of Forbes.com and will work to link all Forbes businesses to the Internet. He will report to Forbes COO Timothy C. Forbes.

Spanfeller says his goals include increasing growing Forbes.com’s traffic, revenue and mandate – and making it profitable. “They’ve made great strides in figuring out what the brand does online and how that’s different from what it does in the print world,” he said. “But there are kinds of other places to take the online brand that are … in a different space entirely.”

In his most recent role as president of Ziff Davis Media’s consumer magazines, Spanfeller oversaw PC Magazine, Yahoo! Internet Life, Smart Business and Family PC. He joined Ziff Davis in 1996 and was founding publisher of Yahoo! Internet Life. Previously, he was publisher of Inc. magazine

Spanfeller said he decided to join Forbes after considering “a lot” of offers. “They were great opportunities in the print space, but they just weren’t getting my water running. This was a little scary and that felt good.”
