Sofa Express Awards Media to Ten United

CHICAGO Retailer Sofa Express has tapped Ten United to handle media planning and buying on its estimated $10-20 million account after a six-month review, according to the agency.

“We operate in multiple media markets,” said Sofa Express president Mark Peters in a statement. “Ten United demonstrated a real understanding of our business and the ability to develop highly strategic media plans, then execute them across the states where we do business.”

Based in Columbus, Ohio, Sofa Express has more than 60 stores in nine Midwest and Southeast states, as well as Nevada. Contenders in the review were not disclosed.

Ten United will manage the business out of its Columbus headquarters. The media account had previously been handled by an individual freelancer. Creative will remain in-house, according to the agency.

Sofa Express spent about $10 million on advertising last year, according to Nielsen Monitor-Plus. Sources said that amount could double in the coming year.
