SMG Advances McCann

CHICAGO Renetta McCann, chief executive of Starcom North America, has been promoted to CEO of the Americas for Starcom MediaVest Group, the agency said today.

In her new role, McCann will have oversight for the Publicis Groupe company’s media properties in the United States, Canada and Latin America, including Starcom, MediaVest, GM Planworks and Starlink.

“Renetta has consistently demonstrated a keen ability to run an effective organization while aggressively stewarding her clients’ brands and championing innovation and results in consumer contact,” said SMG CEO Jack Klues in a statement.

McCann was part of the management team that led the spin-off of Starcom as an independent media company from Leo Burnett’s media department in 1998. In her new post, McCann retains some oversight for Starcom USA, though day-to-day responsibility will be passed on to John Muszynski, managing director of investment and operations, and Steven Feuling, chief marketing officer.

MediaVest CEO Laura Desmond will continue in that role in New York, as will Dennis Donlin, president of Planworks in Detroit. Similarly, Scott Neslund remains CEO of StarLink in Chicago. Patrick Walsh remains CEO of Starcom’s Canadian operations, while Martha Marin will continue as CEO of SMG’s Latin American region. All will report to McCann.
