Short, But Not Sweet

After a strong start to the shortened President’s Day week, the Dow Jones Industrial Average ended down 44 points on Friday to finish flat for the week. The drop came on a weaker-than-expected earnings report from Hewlett-Packard and a rise in the consumer price index, which triggered fears of inflation. On the Big Board, Omnicom shares fell 4.9 percent, closing the week at $79.08, while IPG slipped 3.4 percent to close at $16.52. British holding company WPP, trading as American Depository Receipts on the Nasdaq, saw its stock drop 2.5 percent to close at $58.48.
