Schwab Eyes 4 Finalists for $100 Mil.+ Account

NEW YORK Charles Schwab has made a cut to four finalists in the review for the creative portion of its $100 million-plus ad account, sources said.

Moving forward are Havas’ Euro RSCG and Grey Global Group’s Grey Worldwide (currently being acquired by WPP Group), both in New York; independent Wieden + Kennedy in Portland, Ore.; and Publicis Groupe’s Publicis & Hal Riney in San Francisco, sources said.

Eliminated were Interpublic Group’s Hill, Holliday, Connors, Cosmopulos in Boston, Publicis Groupe’s Saatchi & Saatchi in New York and independent shop Gardner Nelson & Partners in New York.

Incumbent GSD&M in Austin, Texas, an Omnicom Group shop, declined an invitation to defend.

The San Francisco-based client could not be reached for comment, nor could the consultant managing the process, Select Resources International in Santa Monica, Calif.

A decision is expected in November.

Media chores are not in play and remain with independent RPA in Santa Monica (TV buying) and Omnicom’s PHD in New York (media planning, print buying).
