STOUGHTON, MASS. – Reebok International here has filed suit against Hyde Athletic Industries, Peabody, Mass., alleging false advertising and unfair competition. Reebok claims that Hyde’s advertising, which positions its Saucony Instep as the top-performing women’s walking shoe, is misleading. The Saucony ad, created by former agency Pedone & Partners/N.Y., claims that an article in Consumer Reports rated the shoe as the top performer. In fact, said Reebok, the magazine article gave highest marks to the Avia 392 brand, manufactured by Avia, a division of Reebok.
