Red Tettemer Goes to Hollywood for CD

BOSTON Independent Philadelphia shop Red Tettemer has hired a creative executive from Hollywood, tapping Joe Nelms cd from Warner Bros. Films, where he served as vp, advertising.

“Joe is exactly the kind of creative we’re looking for—a hybrid,” said Steve Red, president and CCO at the independent shop in Philadelphia. “He’s joining a growing number of folks at our agency who are able to conceive an idea, shoot and edit a film and thrive in a world where entertainment and advertising are interchangeable.”

Nelms, 39, will work on accounts such as PBS Kids Sprout, Pennsylvania Tourism and Franklin’s Paine Skatepark.

At Warner, he helped market film series such as Harry Potter, Ocean’s 11 and The Matrix. He has also been an independent screenwriter, scripting Between, which debuted in 2005 at the Sundance Film Festival. His agency experience includes stints in creative posts at BBDO and Grey.

“When I decided to return to advertising, Red Tettemer was the only agency I called because it’s the only agency I wanted to work for,” said Nelms. “Their work is incredible, their culture is unique and I’m thrilled to be here.”

He becomes the second Warner exec to join a regional agency in recent months, following Brad Ball’s hire as a senior partner by Moroch Partners in Dallas last October to work on McDonald’s. Ball was previously evp, domestic corporate marketing at Warner, having joined the company in 1998. At Warner, Ball led marketing for 90 films including The Matrix and Harry Potter.
