RDW Group Prepares for Boston Launch

BOSTON RDW Group, long one of the region’s largest independent agencies, said it would soon open an office here to be headed by John Bermingham, a veteran of the New York advertising scene.

Business development and interactive operations will be moved to Boston as soon as final negotiations for office space on Congress Street have been completed, according to Mike Doyle, president of RDW, which is based in Providence, R.I., and also maintains an outpost in Worcester, Mass.

“To sustain our growth, we need to have a stronger presence in the Boston market,” said Doyle. “Hiring John [Bermingham] is the first step in that process.”

Bermingham, a Boston native, joins RDW from New York independent mcgarrybowen, where he led the shop’s Verizon account team. He has also worked at Young & Rubicam in New York as an account supervisor on the shop’s Sony and Dannon accounts.

RDW was founded in 1986 and has about 75 staffers, working for clients such as Blue Cross & Blue Shield of R.I., Harbor One Bank, New England Gas and Ross-Simons. Despite the down economy, the agency last year grew about 5 percent to $12.8 million in revenue on billings close to $90 million.
