Quiznos Plans to Visit 11 Shops

NEW YORK Quiznos will visit 11 shops this month as part of its search for creative, media and public relations partners, client representative Stacie Lange confirmed.

For creative, Interpublic Group shops The Martin Agency in Richmond, Va., and Deutsch in New York; independents WongDoody in Los Angeles, Wieden + Kennedy in Portland, Ore., The Romann Group in New York, and incumbent Cliff Freeman and Partners, also New York, will be visited, she said.

For media, Lange said Quiznos is meeting with incumbent IPG’s Initiative Media as well as independent Media Head, both in New York, and Camelot Communications in Dallas.

For public relations, the client is talking to WPP Group’s Ogilvy PR in Denver and IPG’s Zipatoni in St. Louis, which also handles in-store marketing.

No dates have been set, but Lange said executives for the sandwich chain will visit shops to see creative and strategic presentations.

The client spent $25 million on ads last year and $18 million through May 2003, according to TNS Media Reporting/CMR.

Cliff Freeman has handled the account since 1999. Executives at the Denver-based client put the account up for review in June citing a need for fresh strategies and creative ideas.

At the time, the client had publicized a list of agencies it was interested in meeting with, including Deutsch and Wieden. However, those two shops had been pitching the $220 million Subway account at the time. That business eventually went to Fallon in Minneapolis, which Quiznos had also identified as an agency it was interested in.

Other shops on the client’s wish list included Omnicom’s Goodby Silverstein & Partners (which was also a Subway contender), TBWA\Chiat\Day in Playa del Rey, Calif., IPG’s Carmichael Lynch in Minneapolis, WPP’s Ogilvy & Mather and Berlin Cameron/Red Cell, both New York, Publicis Groupe’s Publicis & Hal Riney in San Francisco, and independents Modernista! in Boston, and Mad Dogs & Englishmen in New York. It could not immediately be determined whether or not those agencies were contacted.

Lange said the company plans to have its agency partners selected by mid-September.
