LOS ANGELES The national Propane Education & Research Council in Washington, D.C., is presenting MDC Partners’ Colle + McVoy to its board on July 17, the final step before likely awarding the agency creative, media and strategy duties on its $20 million ad account, according to sources.
The organization promotes safe and efficient use of propane, per the guidelines of the 1996 Propane Education and Research Act. It is funded through the sale of each gallon of odorized propane, such as that used in outdoor gas grills.
Both the council and Minneapolis-based agency declined comment. Omnicom Group’s Porter Novelli is the incumbent. The Washington office of that shop, which handles the business, could not immediately be reached. Other review contenders could not immediately be determined.
According to the council’s Web site, the propane industry has undertaken “a multi-year, multi-million dollar effort to improve consumer and employee safety, to fund research and development of new and more efficient propane equipment, and to expand public awareness of propane and its many uses and environmental advantages.”
The council’s marketing budget has ranged from $17-25 million in recent years, according to public records. Nielsen Monitor-Plus tracks measured media spending at $20 million in 2007.
