The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences has named Juan Morales director of membership publications and editor-in-chief of Emmy, the organization’s North Hollywood-based bi-monthly publication. Previously, Morales was editor-in-chief of Detour magazine, executive editor of E! Online, a field producer for HBO and a freelance writer and reporter for newspapers including The New York Times and the Los Angeles Times.
CurtCo Media, publisher of luxury lifestyle magazines like the Robb Report and Worth, has appointed Daniel Galpern to the newly created post of chief operating officer. Galpern, who has played a vital role in CurtCo’s expansion over the past 18 months, will oversee the Malibu-based company’s corporate development and financing, mergers and acquisitions, and select advertising, sales and marketing functions.
Jill Meiser has moved to Fletcher Martin Ewing as senior vice president. At the Atlanta shop, she will oversee the account management of the RTM Restaurant Group, Arby’s largest franchisee. Meiser joins FME from Atlanta’s Initiative Media, where she served as svp, group account director. In addition, FME has employed Ann Antonini, Melissa Pumphrey and Lisa Mandell as account supervisors and Jamie Landers as senior broadcast negotiator.
MediaSolutions has installed Julie Goggans as vice president of print services. Goggans will oversee the planning and buying of print media for all of the Atlanta company’s clients. Goggans comes to MediaSolutions from Publix supermarkets, where she served as the marketing and advertising manager.
Mary Palmer has joined independent agency Chicago Creative Partnership as director of media buying services. A 24-year industry veteran, Palmer has worked for agencies such as Saatchi & Saatchi, Doner and GSD&M on brands like McDonald’s, Toyota and Procter & Gamble.
Healthcare marketing shop Abelson-Taylor, which has specialized in professional medical advertising, has hired the former director of marketing for the state of Illinois Richard Blocki to head up its consumer- targeted practice. In the mid-1990s, Blocki spearheaded Illinois’ tourism efforts, winning a gold Effie in 1996. For the past eight years, he operated R. Blocki & Associates. At AT, Blocki will be an account director, responsible for developing consumer campaigns for the Chicago agency’s current clients, as well as cultivating new business.
CFM Direct has promoted Steve McKenzie to executive vice president of marketing. In the new position, McKenzie, who was previously senior vice president of marketing, will continue to direct the Chicago agency’s national marketing activities, as well as work on new business.
Logan Marketing has appointed Ellie Rodriguez media coordinator. At the New Orleans agency, Rodriguez will be responsible for handling the placement and coordination of all client print, radio and television media. She will also serve in a similar role for the Partnership of Logan Marketing and Communications and JWT’s Mature Market Group. Rodriguez is a recent graduate of Tulane University.
GKV Communications has named Stacey Grabowski production manager. Grabowski will manage print production for several of the Baltimore agency’s clients, including MedStar Health, Shoppers Food & Pharmacy, Ciena and Auntie Anne’s. She previously worked at New York’s Cline, Davis & Mann Advertising. In addition, GKV has recruited Libba Kelly and Angelina Gentile as studio manager and traffic coordinator, respectively. Prior to joining the shop, Kelly was a senior production artist and director of art services at The Campbell Group; Gentile previously was a traffic manager at Azzam Jordan Advertising and a senior traffic coordinator at Doner Direct Advertising.
Boulanger & Associates in Canton has enlisted Amy Clarke as an account executive and Bethany Fraser as a junior account executive. Clarke previously spent five years as a marketing manager at civil engineering firm Vanasse Hangen Brustlin in Water-town, and Fraser worked in various support positions at RDW Group in Providence, R.I.
Julie Reece has joined PJA as an account director. She will work mainly on Akamai and iLumin at the technology-focused agency in Cambridge. Reece had previously spent eight years as an independent marketing consultant and has also held posts at Fidelity Investments, Lotus Development and Talbot’s.
Kristine Schmittler has moved to Schadler Kramer Group as an account supervisor for the Las Vegas shop’s casino and destination clients. Schmittler is a former director of marketing for Atlanta-based restaurant chain The Capital Grille.
Peter Demas has become vice president, director of production at MediaVest in New York. Demas will oversee strategic development, creative and production for branded entertainment initiatives on behalf of MediaVest clients. Demas has more than 15 years of entertainment marketing experience, including 12 years at MTV Networks.
Buck & Pulleyn in Rochester has named Chris Capone director of production and traffic. Capone will oversee production of all communication projects for B&P clients, including advertising, direct marketing and collateral materials. He previously served as production manager at Saatchi & Saatchi and held posts at Latorra, Paul & McCann Advertising in Syracuse and McAuliffe, a printing company in Liverpool.
Creative Civilization has installed Mike De La Garza as director of client services and public relations. De La Garza will be responsible for leading growth opportunities for the agency’s clients, as well as overseeing the public relations department. Prior to joining the San Antonio shop, De La Garza was vice president at the strategic consulting firm MDLG & Associates and senior vice president of marketing, advertising and public affairs for Laredo National Bank.
Richards/Gravelle Public Relations in Dallas has assigned Barry Pound to lead agency accounts in the fields of biotechnology and healthcare. In his new role, Pound will direct public relations initiatives for Rules-Based Medicine and BioPhysical Corp., both located in Austin. In addition, he will manage a number of institutional communications projects for Children’s Medical Center of Dallas. Pound joins the PR practice from VHA in Irving, where he was senior director of communications.
