Postaer Defeats Krueger in Tokyo Duel

LOS ANGELES Pioneer Electronics is poised to award advertising duties for its home entertainment division to Rubin Postaer and Associates, sources said.

The independent shop in Santa Monica, Calif., topped WPP’s Krueger to win the creative and media account. Krueger is the Los Angeles office for Asatsu in Tokyo, which works with Pioneer in Japan.

The two shops presented creative on Wednesday to Pioneer executives in Tokyo, according to sources. Two other agencies, including the incumbent, Omnicom’s BBDO West in San Francisco and Los Angeles, and independent DGWB in Santa Ana, Calif., were cut from the review late last week, sources said.

Billings were undisclosed. Pioneer’s home entertainment division has spent approximately $8 million annually on ads, but that figure could increase to $12-15 million, sources said. Work is expected to focus on the client’s plasma televisions, sources have said [Adweek.com, May 22].

BBDO remains the agency for Pioneer’s mobile entertainment division.

RPA referred calls to Pioneer in Long Beach, Calif. Client representatives could not immediately be reached. Representatives for BBDO, DGWB and Krueger declined comment.
