You know out-of-home video is hot when it hits State College, Penn., the small-town home of Penn State University. On Friday (May 15), the two Original Waffle Shop restaurants in town debuted 46-inch LCD screens, which will broadcast a 20-minute video and flash animation loop, featuring restaurant trivia and information about the quality ingredients used in the menu items.
The signs were created through a partnership between State College-based JLS Creative Solutions, the content provider for JLS Digital Signage Network and Link Computer Corp. of Bellwood, Penn.
“We are really happy with the results,” said John Dimakopoulos, the owner and operator of both Original Waffle Shop locations. “All of our customers excited.”
Like other quick service restaurants that have installed video networks, Original Waffle Shops was looking to provide its customers with an enhanced experience, even while waiting for service.
“We took their established brand identity and worked off of that as an overarching theme for the project” said Dan McBride, the cinematographer and video editor for JLS. “We tried to make the signage entertaining and part of that was the development of the integrated ‘fun facts,’ which children as well as adults can enjoy while waiting in line.”
