We know the traffic is terrible, but where are all those people going? That’s what the federal Bureau of Transportation Statistics wanted to know when it asked drivers to categorize their “most common trip.” For 51 percent, it was the “commute to work/school.” Shopping/errands accounted for 27 percent, while a gadabout 11 percent of respondents said “recreational/social”drives were their most common. Elsewhere in the study, 20 percent said traffic affected their decisions about “where to work and which hours to work.”
