Our All-Time Favorite Movies

It’s a long time since Gone With the Wind made its debut in America’s theaters, but the movie has not lost its appeal. In a pre-Oscars Harris Poll, GWTW topped the list when adults were asked to pick their “favorite movie of all time.” Star Wars (the No. 1 pick of men) was second overall, followed by Casablanca, Lord of the Rings and The Sound of Music. Completing the top 10 were The Wizard of Oz, The Notebook, Forrest Gump, The Princess Bride and The Godfather. The Confederate, plantation South of GWTW has less appeal for black viewers, evidently, as their top choices were Casablanca and The Wizard of Oz. Among Hispanic respondents, The Notebook was the No. 1 choice, with GWTW running second. Unsurprisingly, there was a generational split in the findings. While boomers and “matures” picked GWTW as their all-time favorite, younger cohorts made Star Wars their top choice.
