Thursday marks the 50th anniversary of Ogilvy & Mather, the agency founded by British ad icon David Ogilvy in 1948.
The festivities, taking place all over the globe, include a gala at Manhattan’s Museum of Modern Art hosted by Rick Boyko and Bill Gray, the New York agency’s co-presidents. Ogilvy’s wife, Herta, is set to attend.
D.O. himself, the man behind the famous Man in the Hathaway shirt campaign (shown here), will not be making the trip.
In Chicago, a party will be thrown at an authentic Scottish restaurant, preceded earlier in the week by the David Ogilvy Film Festival, which features the documentary Advertising on Ogilvy.
The hoopla will also take place in far-flung Ogilvy outposts such as Johannesburg, where South African artists will auction off work featuring Ogilvy brands, with proceeds going to the Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund.
