NYT, NBC Join for ’08 Election Coverage

NEW YORK The New York Times Co. and NBC News/msnbc.com said they would collaborate to cover the 2008 presidential election. Starting this week, both will showcase each other’s coverage on their Web sites, in video and in print.

Combined, the two organizations across all platforms reach more than 45 million consumers, the companies said.

As part of the collaboration, msnbc.com will publish political content from NYTimes.com on its Web site. The former will have access to NBC News’ video content for streaming and publishing on NYTimes.com. NBC News will have first access to breaking news and enterprise reporting from NYT journalists on the campaign trail for all its platforms, both on-air and online and vice versa.

Both organizations intend to explore ways to work together on day-to-day political coverage at major events.

“This collaboration gives our organizations the ability to cover all the bases, with a powerhouse combination of top-quality journalism and top-flight technology delivering the story to viewers and readers wherever, and whenever they want it,” said Mark Lukasiewicz, vp of digital media at NBC News.
