N.Y. Shops Eyed In 2 Reviews

Several New York shops emerged last week in agency reviews for chicken fast-food chain Ranch 1 and Sharon’s Sorbet, a marketer of premium iced desserts.
McCabe & Co., Ciociola & Co., The GFS/Levinson Group, RocketScience Creative, Posnick & Kolker and Amil Gargano & Partners, all in New York, are contenders for the creative portion of Ranch 1’s ad account, sources said. The New York client will meet with agencies on March 13 and 16, according to sources. The client and agencies all declined comment or could not be reached at press time.
The winning agency will craft a late spring TV, radio and outdoor campaign around the client’s flagship grilled chicken sandwich, sources said. Currently, the company creates its ads in-house. Media chores on the $1-2 million business will remain with TD Advertising in New York, said sources.
Ranch 1 has 21 restaurants in the New York area, but hopes to expand, according to industry reports.
Nina Hernandez, marketing director for Sharon’s Sorbet in New York, said the company has met with GFS/Levinson, Holland Advertising, Blum/Herbstreith and Rocket-Science about handling creative and media chores on its account. Spending is about $1 million but expected to grow as distribution is expanded.
The winning shop will launch the first campaign for the company’s nationally distributed sorbets. The client hopes to compete with the likes of H€agen-Dazs, Ben & Jerry’s, Ciao Bella and Friuli.
Current advertising is limited to magazine ads, created in-house.
