NEW YORK — Novell has selected J. Walter Thompson in New York to handle its estimated $30 million account, a client representative confirmed, after a prolonged review that was nearly scuttled.

According to sources, the other finalists were Mullen in Wenham, Mass; Hill, Holliday, Connors, Cosmopulos in Boston; and the incumbent, SicolaMartin of Austin, Texas, which tapped into the resources of sister shop Young & Rubicam in New York.

The account is said to include both creative and media duties.
