Gay or straight, what basketball player — or anyone for that matter — wants a sweaty crotch all up in their face? This Nike print ad for Hyperdunk basketball shoes is the latest in a spate of recent ads from various marketers killed in hasty reaction to complaints of homophobia and other social ills.
Some people may in fact find the ad showing athletes invading each other’s personal space offensive. The imagery certainly conjures up an unpleasant sensory experience that any competitor could relate to, especially in the middle of summer.
