Nielsen, AEG Pact to Grow ‘Billboard’

NEW YORK The Nielsen Co. has forged an alliance with AEG Live, a unit of sports and entertainment presenter AEG, aimed at expanding the brand of Nielsen’s Billboard magazine globally.

Under the alliance, AEG—which owns and operates such venues as Staples Center and Nokia Theatre Times Square—will create Billboard-branded tours, concerts, festivals and TV award shows and expand existing Billboard events. The companies also plan to create broadband and mobile content to complement the events and programs. AEG will handle sales, promotions and merchandising related to the events and awards programs.

“Our alliance marries AEG’s leadership and innovation in live entertainment and music to Billboard’s unmatched brand strength and credibility with both consumers and the industry,” said John Kilcullen, publisher of Billboard and svp of the Film and Performing Arts and Music and Literary Groups at Nielsen Business Media. “This agreement provides unlimited opportunities to further extend the Billboard brand through market-leading tours, festivals and TV productions.”

Billboard is a sister publication of Adweek; Nielsen is the parent company of both magazines.
