Nextel Picks MindShare for Media

NEW YORK Nextel has selected WPP Group’s MindShare as its media agency of record, the client confirmed.

MindShare, New York, was competing for the media portion of Nextel’s $150 million account against incumbent Interpublic Group shop Initiative Media, Omnicom’s PHD and Havas’ Media Planning Group, all New York, and Publicis Groupe’s Starcom, Chicago. (Adweek Online, May 7).

MindShare will service the account out of its New York office starting in June.

Last week the Reston, Va.-based wireless communications company named Omnicom’s TBWA\Chiat\Day, New York, to handle its creative account.

IPG’s Mullen in Wenham, Mass., had been the creative incumbent on Nextel.
