TBWA\South Africa’s has named Derek Bouwer CEO. “I believe I bring a deep appreciation for the importance of creativity but also the commercial sense to recognise and develop the business of communication,” he said. Bouwer joined TBWA in October 1996 after qualifying as a chartered accountant. That year, he took up the role of group chief operating officer, assuming responsibility for the commercial and operational leadership of the group. Now, as CEO, Bouwer says he wants to help develop a marketing communications group that is the best in breed across all disciplines. “Having grown from three independent agencies in 2000 into a Media Arts group of 11 specialist companies in 2010, we are aiming to drive the cohesion within TBWA that will enable us to deliver great ideas to our clients in a seamless fashion,” he said.
