NEW YORK — National Geographic Television is going Hollywood. The distinguished brand name of science and nature documentaries is taking a step into the glittering world of movies with “National Geographic Beyond the Movie,” a periodic one-hour special series that feeds viewers’ information hunger whet by big-name Hollywood historical epics.

First up is “National Geographic Beyond the Movie: Pearl Harbor,” which is tied to the Walt Disney Co.’s Touchstone Pictures $165 million summer blockbuster “Pearl Harbor,” which opens May 25 for Memorial Day weekend.
