Munroe Joins JWT as President

J. Walter Thompson’s San Francisco office today gets a new president.
Gordon Munroe, 45, formerly chief executive officer for Western operations at BBDO Canada in Vancouver, takes over the senior post, vacant since David Riemer resigned last fall.
Riemer’s duties had been handled in the interim by JWT West CEO Larry Tolpin and general manager John Geoghegan, who is leaving to become CEO of CareGuide.com, a San Francisco-based online resource for childcare and eldercare services.
The hire reunites Munroe with Tolpin, who had also previously worked at BBDO. That opportunity was “the biggest part” of why he made the move, Munroe said.
“I worked with Larry for 10 long years on both the client and agency side,” Munroe said. (Munroe had held a senior marketing post at BBDO Canada client Unilever.) “He has an exciting view of advertising and a vision of building the JWT office into a major presence.”
“It’s great to bring in one of my own people,” Tolpin said.
Over the next two years, Tolpin said he plans to focus on acquiring high-tech communications companies to help the agency develop nontraditional business solutions for clients.
