MSN Selects Digital Island For Ad Hosting

On Thursday, Microsoft announced it has selected Digital Island to deliver all online advertisements for its MSN Web portal. More than 860 million ads are delivered each day across MSN, which includes MSN eShop, Instant Messenger, Search and Hotmail, and the MSNBC.com network of Web sites.

With more than 230 million unique visitors per month, MSN is said to be the Internet’s number one destination with the broadest global presence. According to New York-based AdRelevance, a Jupiter Media Matrix Company, MSN also dominates in terms of revenue, generating $180 million during December 2000.

Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed. However, Digital Island’s shares nearly doubled in price Thursday, settling at $3.69 each. The success is relative, however — at their peak in December 1999, they went for $140.69.
