MPA Selects Kelly Award Finalists

NEW YORK The Magazine Publishers of America revealed the finalists for the Grand Prize Kelly Award today. Eighteen agencies from across the country are competing for the award, which honors creative magazine advertising and carries a cash prize of $100,000.

The finalists are: Carmichael Lynch in Minneapolis for three campaigns: “Reflections” for Harley-Davidson Parts & Accessories, “Black and Orange” for Harley-Davidson Motorclothes and brand ads for Porsche Cars North America; Crispin Porter + Bogusky in Miami, also for three campaigns: “Racing” for Bell, “Animals” for Giro and “Launch Effort” for Mini USA; Arnold in Boston for two campaigns: “Europe” for Royal Caribbean and “New Beetle” for Volkswagen of America; Leo Burnett in Chicago for “School Portraits” for Kraft’s Altoids and “I-Zone Adjacking” for Polaroid; BBDO in New York for “Shower/Office/Cast” for Guinness; Borders Perrin Norrander in Portland, Ore., for its fall 2002 brand campaign for Columbia Sportswear; Bozell in New York for its “Look Deeper” campaign for The New York Times; Campbell-Ewald in Warren, Mich., for “Lyric” for Chevrolet; and DDB in Dallas for its 2002 “Labels” campaign for McIlhenny Co.

Also, Fallon in New York for “Seek Out” for Timberland; Lowe in New York for “Having a Baby Changes Everything” for Johnson & Johnson; Martin/Williams in Minneapolis for its “Fall Heritage Product” campaign for L.L. Bean; Mullen in Wenham, Mass., for “Upgrade Your Language” for American Heritage Dictionary and “American Landscapes” for Eddie Bauer; Nail in Providence, R.I., for “We See It Too” for Atomic Ski USA; Peterson Milla Hooks in Minneapolis for “Sign of the Times” for Target; Vitrorobertson in San Diego for “Everyday Artists” for Taylor Guitars; Wieden + Kennedy in Portland for its “ACG Go” campaign for Nike; and Young & Rubicam in Chicago for “Souvenir, T-shirts, Seat Cushions, UFO, Grass Stain” for Nascar.

The prize will be awarded at the MPA’s Association of National Advertisers’ Print Advertising Forum in New York on June 19. Runners-up will be awarded gold and silver Kelly Awards.

Carmichael Lynch won last year’s top prize for a Harley-Davidson campaign.
