Starcom MediaVest Group in New York appointed Blaise D’Sylva director of global media systems, a new position. He will be in charge of the company’s technology and systems strat egy. D’Sylva also will be responsible for Starcom MediaVest’s flagship products, such as Mission Control, a Web-based media-management tool that is used by many of the agency’s clients, including General Motors and Miller Brewing Co., and the company’s global knowledge-resource application, StarNet. D’Sylva is returning to the U.S. from China, where he was managing director of Starcom in Asia, running the P&G Asia business.
Messner Vetere Berger McNamee Schmetterer/Euro RSCG, based in New York, named Christopher Donkin managing director of its Amsterdam outpost, MVBMS Fuel Europe. Starting April 2, Donkin will lead day-to-day operations at the new unit, which was formed earlier this year to handle Volvo’s $50 million European account. He will report to Jay Durante, the agency’s global account director for the Volvo account. Donkin comes from J. Walter Thompson in London, where he was global operations director for the Jaguar Global Communications Group. Before that, he served as director-in-charge of the Ford Motor Co. Division at JWT in Taiwan. In addition to his work in the automotive sector, Donkin also worked on accounts such as Nike, Nintendo and Kraft General Foods during his twelve-year tenure at JWT.
Corey Silverman was promoted to vice president, national advertising sales, Eastern division at Bravo Networks, effective immediately. In his new role, Silverman will be responsible for the continued growth of the cable network’s Eastern advertising-sales business, the overall management of the New York sales staff and for implementing all national marketing initiatives. Silverman is based in the New York sales office and reports to Hanna Gryncwajg, senior vice president, advertising sales, Bravo Networks. Silverman joined Bravo last year as advertising sales director, Eastern Region.
Gary Exelbert joined DDB New York as group account director on Royal Philips (North America). He began his career at BBDO New York and spent 11 years at the agency.
William Vitriol was named senior vice president, new business development at Sterling Group. Prior to joining the New York-based brand consultancy, he was director of new business at nick andpaul.
Eric Mower and Associates promoted James Arnold to senior public relations account executive in the agency’s public relations services department. He joined the agency, which has offices in Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse, Albany, White Plains and Atlanta, in 1998.
Cathleen Graham joined Cohn & Wolfe’s New York office as vice president, director of human resources and recruiting. She most recently worked as direc tor of human resources and recruiting at Rubenstein Public Relations in New York.
Gillespie named four of its senior executives—Tom Conti, Steven Emery, Gary Frederick and David Huehnergarth—managing partners. Conti, Frederick and Huehnergarth are part of the Princeton-based agency’s new Client Business Development group; Emery heads the public relations team. Conti joined Gillespie in 1999 as senior vice pres ident, advertising. Frederick arrived in 1996 as senior vice president in the shop’s Direct Marketing group. Huehnergarth rejoined the agency in 2000 as senior vice president after heading the Comcast business at Red Tettemer; he was at Gillespie from 1994-99. Emery came to Gillespie in late 1999 as senior vice president, public relations.
Zanders USA in Wayne appointed Kenneth Schutte territory manager for the Midwest region, comprising Ohio, Western Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Kentucky, Michigan and Indiana. He previously worked with companies such as Model Graphics & Media and Scot Business Systems, both in Cincinnati.
MARC USA/Pittsburgh hired two staffers and promoted one on its Mellon Financial Corp. and Rite Aid accounts. Marcos Sanchez joined the agency as senior account supervisor; he previously worked for companies such as Chase Workplace Financial Services and Grey. Nikki Elias was named an account executive, working on Rite Aid; she most recently served as an account executive at Giordano Advertising in Charlotte, N.C. Brandon Davis was promoted to account executive and will continue to work on Mellon Financial Corp.; he arrived at MARC in 2000 as an assistant account executive.
Marmion Marketing Communications in Pittsburgh appointed Theo Camut art director. He previously worked at agencies such as BrabenderCox, The Kaiser Group and the former Hallmark/Tassone.
