D’Arcy Masius Benton & Bowles, New York, named Benson Hausman senior vice president, director of business development and marketing, a new position. He was formerly vice president, director of business development at Kirshenbaum Bond & Partners, where he spent four years. Before, he held an accountservices post at Grey Entertainment. At D’Arcy, he will focus on growing the New York operation, which claims billings of $800 million.
Owen Dougherty has joined
J. Walter Thompson, New York, as executive vice president, director of corporate communications, a new position. Dougherty reports to CEO Chris Jones and is responsible for media relations and communications for the worldwide agency. He was formerly senior vice president, director of corporate affairs at Grey Advertising, New York.
BBDO New York chairman Phil Dusenberry will succeed Ogilvy & Mather’s Shelly Lazarus as chairman of the board of the American Association of Advertising Agencies. Dusenberry previously was vice chairman. The new vice chairman will be John Dooner, chairman and CEO of McCann-Erickson WorldGroup and a previous director-at-large. Another new officer, J. Melvin Muse, chairman of Muse Cordero Chen & Partners, Los Angeles, succeeds John Emmerling of Emmerling Post, New York, as secretary-treasurer. The nominations, as well as those for eight new directors on the 24-member board, are expected to be confirmed at the 4A’s annual business meeting in May.
John Wickersham was appointed president and CEO of VNU Business Media, New York, a new entity comprising BPI Communications, Bill Communications, VNU eMedia and VNU Expositions. Most recently, Wickersham was chairman of Bill Communications. In addition, Jim Bracken, former president of BillCom Exposition & Conference Group, was named president of VNU Expositions, which was created from that group. And John Babcock, president and CEO of BPI Communications, will head the board of directors of the newly formed VNU eMedia. BPI magazines include such publications as Adweek and Billboard.
Earle Palmer Brown has appointed Louis Carvell creative director of the New York office. Most recently, Carvell was senior vice president, associate creative director at McCann-Erickson, New York.
TBS Media Management has named Kristina Allen senior vice president, director of communications and media services, a new position. Before joining the shop in New York, she was managing partner, director of strategic planning at Los Angeles-based Kovel/Fuller.
Williams & Co. has promoted Yvonne Gillispie to director of marketing and special projects for the company’s National Scrabble Association division, and account supervisor at the company, working on all Nickelodeon projects. She has been at the Greenport-based Williams & Co. for three years, most recently as marketing and projects manager.
