Monturo to TBWA\C\D

Richard Monturo is leaving Lowe Lintas & Partners in New York to oversee account planning at TBWA\Chiat\Day in Playa del Rey, Calif.

Monturo, 35, becomes account planning dir ector at TBWA\C\D, a post pre viously held by Chris Chalk, who left to join Goodby, Silverstein & Partners in San Francisco about a year ago.

Tom Carroll, president and CEO of TBWA\C\D, said he met with more than 20 candidates during the last year. He said Monturo, who was executive director of strategic services at Lowe Lintas, has a strong track record, and appeared to be the most flexible and open-minded about the strategic planning process.

“The great thing about him is he doesn’t have any precious notions about planning. He’s all about ideas,” Carroll said.

Charged with revitalizing the planning department, Monturo said he will initiate significant changes. “There’s already a strong [planning] foundation at the Playa del Rey office,” he said, “but [TBWA Worldwide chief creative officer] Lee Clow told me to rethink how agencies approach planning and really start reinvigorating how it’s practiced at the agency.”

Monturo said he was seeking a life style change and was not at all dissatisfied at Lowe Lintas. “This seemed like a logical next step considering the amount of time I spend [in Los Angeles],” he said. Monturo will maintain homes in both Los Angeles and New York. He is due to start in Playa del Rey on Feb. 12.

In addition to Lowe Lintas, Monturo has held positions at Goldsmith/Jeffrey, New York, and DDB, New York and Singapore.
