BOSTON Independent Modernista! said it has cut 23 staff positions, a reduction in its headquarters staff here of slightly more than 15 percent to 112.
No cuts are being made at the Modernista! office in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, where nine staffers are employed.
The agency issued this brief statement today attributed to its president, Clift Jones:
“We’ve had to bring expenses in line with our revenue. These decisions are never easy, but were necessary to best position the agency for long term success.”
The shop declined to elaborate.
Its roster is heavy with General Motors’ assignments, including GM’s Hummer and Cadillac — though the staff cut was not directly attributed to any projected client cutbacks or losses.
The agency joins a wave of its brethren in making cutbacks, including MDC’s Crispin Porter + Bogusky, which slashed 60 staffers last week, about 7 percent of its overall workforce in Miami and Boulder, Colo.
