NEW YORK Major League Baseball will stream the Aug. 26 matchup between the New York Yankees and Detroit Tigers gratis on MLB.com, marking the five-year anniversary of the site’s first live-game Webcast.

On Aug. 6, 2002, the site streamed a game between the Yankees and Texas Rangers to roughly 30,000 viewers. Since then, it has gone on to build a strong subscription-based business built around delivering fans live games on the Web, just as online video has come into its own.
