Mintz & Hoke, Schwartz Score PR Prizes

BOSTON Mintz & Hoke won the Super Bell best-of-show prize and Schwartz Communications garnered the most bells at the annual Bell Ringer Awards presented by the Publicity Club of New England.

The awards honor regional agencies and clients for excellence in public relations. The ceremony was held last night at the Royal Sonesta Hotel in Cambridge, Mass.

Independent Avon, Conn.-based Mintz & Hoke won its Super Bell for a consumer campaign executed on behalf of Connecticut Bank & Trust.

The top winners were: Schwartz (which won 13 bells), Cone (7 bells) and RDW Group (4 bells). Winning three bells each were: the Fenton Group, Kelliher Samets Volk, O’Neill & Associates and Solomon McCown.

Barry Wanger, president of Wanger Associates, won the John J. Malloy Crystal Bell for lifetime achievement. Amanda Chaborek of the MGH Institute of Allied Health Professions won the Bronze Bell as the year’s outstanding young PR practitioner. Susan Johnston, a 2005 Boston University graduate, won the $1,000 William M. Cavanaugh Grant.

This year’s awards competition received 326 entries from 66 different PR agencies and companies from throughout New England. The Bell Ringers were introduced in 1969.
