Meldrum & Fewsmith Has Re-Entered Two Key Business
categories with new assignments from The Flood Co. and Pizza Hut.
Flood, a marketer of paint additives and exterior wood care products, moved its $3-4 million account to Meldrum from Hitchcock Fleming & Co. in Akron, Ohio. The agency of record assignment returns Meldrum to a category it abandoned in late 1994 when it resigned the Glidden Co. account rather than participate in a review. It handled that business for 60 years.
“We couldn’t think of a better company than Flood to benefit from our expertise in the [do-it-yourself] category,” Meldrum chief executive officer Chris Perry said in a statement.
Flood, based in Hudson, Ohio, said Meldrum will create the company’s first brand-development marketing campaign. Past advertising has focused on specific products.
The Flood assignment comes on the heels of the agency’s return to another category in which it has expertise. Midland Food Services, the second largest Pizza Hut franchisee, assigned Meldrum ad responsibilities for its 150 stores in West Virginia and the Toledo, Ohio, market. The local co-ops in those same markets also took on Meldrum as their agency. Total billings for the business are $2 million. Marcus Advertising in Cleveland previously handled the business but continues as agency for Midland’s Pizza Hut units in Cleveland.
Meldrum’s restaurant experience includes a stint as national agency for the Rally’s drive-through chain.
