MediaCom Wins Veritas’ $20 Mil. Media Account

LOS ANGELES Veritas Software has awarded its $20 million global media account to Grey Global Group’s MediaCom, the client confirmed.

The San Francisco agency edged out Interpublic Group’s Universal McCann and Aegis Group’s Carat, both in San Francisco, in a review led by Select Resources International in West Hollywood, Calif. Veritas, a technology data storage company in Mountain View, Calif., previously worked with Hill, Holliday, Connors, Cosmopulos in San Francisco, which declined to participate in the review.

“Out of 20-plus companies we started to approach, they were the company that pretty much excelled in every single aspect of the business,” said Rene Bonvanie, vice president of corporate marketing at Veritas. “They were the most passionate and knowledgeable about our business and they came back with a plan help us go into Q4 and give our money the best shot that is out there.”

Veritas was originally looking for an agency to handle domestic media, which comprises the majority of the company’s spending. The company works with a number of agencies throughout Europe and Asia, Bonvanie said. “We became aware that the majority of the companies we approached had strong ideas about the other regions and how to make our dollars go even further by combining buying across the world,” he said.

In selecting MediaCom, Veritas has now completed three agency reviews this year. Godfrey Q & Partners in San Francisco handles creative duties for Veritas, and Edelman was recently awarded public relations duties.

While Veritas has primarily done business-to-business print advertising and will continue to invest strongly in that medium, Bonvanie said the company is considering broadcast, outdoor and guerilla marketing.
