Media Agencies: News Maker

Kayne Lanahan is now senior vice president and head of the newly formed News Corp. One, the media unit of Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp. The unit will offer advertisers the versatility to create custom media and marketing programs by tapping into the company’s more than 35 ad-supported businesses. News Corp. touts such properties as Fox Broadcasting Co. and cable’s Fox Sports Network.
CAREER: Lanahan launched herself by way of J. Walter Thompson’s planning department in 1982. She worked her way up to senior vice president, group media director and handled many clients, including Sears, Kraft cheeses and Quaker pet foods. She moved on to Coca-Cola in 1992, where she held the title of North American media director, overseeing a $200 million budget for sports, entertainment and kids media. Most recently, she was media director at New York’s Merkley Newman Harty.
