McDonald’s Makes Music With Sony

CHICAGO McDonald’s will tout a music marketing partnership with Sony in a new commercial breaking next week that features pop star Justin Timberlake.

The spot promotes the Big Mac Meal Tracks program and will break in the U.S., Puerto Rico and Canada on June 7. It will roll out in other countries, such as the U.K., Germany and France, later this summer. The program enables purchasers of a Big Mac Extra Value Meal to download one free song of their choosing from Sony’s Connect online music store.

“Big Mac Meal Tracks is not only McDonald’s first multi-national music promotion, it is the first time that a music program of this scale is being offered to consumers in multiple countries around the world,” said Dean Barrett, senior vice president of global brand business for the Oak Brook, Ill., company, in a statement.

Leo Burnett in Chicago, which won a global assignment to create advertising for the Big Mac last December, created the television spot.

Spending on the promotion was not disclosed.
