NEW YORK Interpublic Group’s McCann Erickson said it has promoted group managing director C. Thomas Gruhler to director of account management, replacing Lori Senecal, who left earlier this month for Omnicom Group’s DDB.

In his new role, Gruhler will report to Brett Gosper, who last month returned to the agency from TBWA\Chiat\Day as president of McCann Erickson USA.

Gruhler, 36, has been spearheading the agency’s $300-400 million Verizon Wireless account since 2002. He will continue to do so as he assumes his new responsibilities of managing a 150-person staff, budgets and resources, as well as participate in career development programs at the New York agency.
