McCann L.A. Hires 2 Senior Creatives

McCann Erickson has named Paul Nguyen (shown) svp, creative director and Jason Rappaport vp, associate creative director at the Interpublic Group unit’s Los Angeles office. Nguyen had most recently been a cd at Omnicom’s TBWA\Chiat\Day and Rappaport a senior writer at independent Ground Zero.

They are the first creative hires since Curt Detweiler was named North American evp, ecd at McCann in October. It reunites Nguyen and Rappaport who had worked together as a creative team for several years at TBWA\C\D. It also brings them back together with Detweiler, who joined McCann from Ground Zero and had also worked with them earlier at TBWA\C\D.

In their new McCann roles, they will work on accounts like Nestlé, Northrop Grumman and Bumble Bee Foods. Nguyen and Rappaport report to Steve Levit, CCO at McCann L.A.

Nguyen joined TBWA in 2002 as an art director, working with both TBWA\C\D and Tequila. He became part of the agency’s first cross-discipline team and partnered with Rappaport in that effort. As an associate creative director on PlayStation, Nguyen created the “Play Beyond” campaign and as a cd oversaw all of Gatorade’s digital efforts. In addition to helping relaunch the Gatorade brand, his most recent credits include Gatorade’s “Michael Jordan: Performance Art” spot and installation as well as Gatorade.com. Prior to joining TBWA\C\D, Nguyen was a lead designer at JUXT Interactive, working on Billabong USA.

At Ground Zero, Rappaport worked on 2K Sports, ESPN, Partnership for a Drug-Free America and Oberto Beef Jerky. He started his career at TBWA\C\D and while there he worked on Sony PlayStation, Nissan, Adidas, Pepsi, Pennzoil, Mars, Infiniti and Gatorade. Rappaport also served as lead writer on the Nissan Rogue launch.

“Paul and Jason are broad thinkers with deep interactive experience and they approach creative challenges with a holistic, media neutral perspective. I know firsthand that they make a dynamic team and are ideally suited to take on these important creative roles,” said Detweiler, who oversees McCann’s North American creative operations outside of New York.

Added McCann L.A. creative chief Levit: “Paul and Jason are just another step in further strengthening McCann’s creative product. We have a team in place that is forward thinking, strategic and extremely talented, and we are thrilled to have them join us in Los Angeles.”
