McCann-Erickson’s Momentum Acquires HBH

NEW YORK — McCann-Erickson WorldGroup’s Momentum Worldwide has added more star power to its marketing capabilities with the acquisition of public relations firm Huvane Baum Halls.

It plans to merge the company with its PMK public relations division to form PMK/HBH.

Terms were undisclosed.

Each of the two units is known for its client list of leading American film actors and directors. PMK’s clients include Tom Cruise, Jodie Foster, Tom Hanks, Al Pacino, Woody Allen and Martin Scorsese, while HBH handles Russell Crowe, Helen Hunt, Matthew Broderick and Ang Lee, among others.

In a statement, Mark Dowley, vice chairman of WorldGroup Marketing Communications, said, “Celebrities and movies are in effect mass market ‘brands,’ when you consider the complexities involved in generating widespread public acceptance, trust and loyalty. From this perspective, PMK and HBH are proven experts in launching and managing these highly visible, popular ‘brands.’ Additionally, we have benefited so far because PMK has brought to our company and our corporate clients a unique credibility in terms of providing insights to popular culture and social trends.”

Client-publicist teams will remain intact as the two firms integrate their operations. PMK has 50 staffers and 200 clients, while HBH has 15 staffers and 125 clients.

The new management team will be a combination of principals from each company. PMK’s Patricia Kingsley becomes managing partner of PMK/HBH while her associates Lois Smith and Leslee Dart are deputy managing partners. HBH principals Stephen Huvane, Robin Baum and Simon Halls are managing directors.

Momentum has operations in 32 countries and claims worldwide revenues of more than $170 million.
