Mary Kay Puts on a Corporate PR Face

BOSTON Mary Kay has named WPP Group’s Hill & Knowlton its media relations firm.

The New York public relations practice will represent the cosmetic company’s products and showcase the career opportunities afforded to women at Mary Kay through media relations.

“Most importantly, we looked to hire a firm that would give us the attention of a boutique, but with the resources, breadth and experience of a big agency,” said Shannon Summers, director of corporate communications at Mary Kay. “We were especially attracted to the company’s proven track record and solid understanding of our business that is critical to achieving our goals.”

Prior to winning the account, H&K had worked on several products for the Dallas-based client, including media relations surrounding Mary Kay’s 40th anniversary last year.

“We are excited to continue our work with Mary Kay,” said MaryLee Sachs, president and CEO of Hill & Knowlton USA. “Our experience in branding and marketing to women will be especially beneficial as we promote the career opportunity and products that truly can make a difference in women’s lives.”

H&K was awarded the business following a review of undisclosed contenders. Budget details were not given.
