Martin Revisits TV Land Characters

ATLANTA Ads for TV Land’s inaugural Classic TV Awards Show give new meaning to the word re-run.

In a television spot from Interpublic Group’s The Martin Agency, a team of The Honeymooners Ed Norton wannabes face off against a troop of Eddie Munsters on a neighborhood basketball court. As Ed meets Eddie, the game is interrupted by a crew of Gilligan lookalikes.

The 30-second spot from the Richmond, Va., agency breaks tonight on network and cable channels in New York, Los Angeles, Detroit and Chicago. Outdoor images of I Dream of Jeannie‘s Barbara Eden have been posted on buildings in New York’s Times Square and on Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles. The campaign also includes radio and print ads in TV Guide.

The New York-based classic sitcom cable channel has given awards to recent and current plot-driven shows, honoring programs such as Sports Night, Malcolm in the Middle, The Sopranos and Scrubs. “We would go to the set and deliver the award for a ‘Future Classic,'” said client representative Paul Ward.

This year, however, winners in categories like “Legend,” “Innovator” and “Pop Culture Favorite” will be announced by sitcom veteran John Ritter.

The TV Land awards show airs March 12 at 9 p.m.
