Marriott Awards Renaissance to McCann

NEW YORK — Marriott has expanded its relationship with McCann-Erickson by giving the shop its Renaissance Hotels account without a review. Althoug billings were undisclosed, Renaissance spent $1 million on media in 2000, according to CMR. The previous agency was Siegelgale in New York.

The assignment includes advertising directed at both leisure and business travelers.

In January, Marriott shifted to McCann the B2B portion of its estimated $45 million account for six brands, five of which were handled by Siegelgale. Those brands were Marriott Hotels, Residence Inn, Fairfield Inn, TownePlace Suites, and SpringHill Suites; the Courtyard brand moved to McCann from sister shop Lowe Lintas & Partners. In turn, the New York-based agency absorbed the leisure portion of the Marriott account from Lowe this summer. A campaign, tagged “Your Marriott Awaits,” broke Sept. 5 for the five brands.

Media duties for the entire account are handled by Universal McCann.

In a statement, Eric Keshin, general manager of McCann New York, said, “Not only is it enormously gratifying to be awarded additional business from a current client, but we are excited about playing a role in Marriott’s aggressive expansion plans for Renaissance.”
