Markus Rises to ECD at McCann

NEW YORK Craig Markus, svp, group creative director of McCann Erickson’s youth-oriented group TAG, is being promoted to executive creative director, Markus confirmed.

Markus, 39 has been svp, group cd at TAG in New York since it was formed in May 2003. The unit serves all of McCann’s existing clients, including Microsoft and Bass. He will continue to oversee TAG. He came aboard at McCann in 2000 to work on PowerAde. Prior to that, Markus had been at Deutsch since 1996, working on Tanqueray, Zertec, Snapple and Old Navy.

“I’ll still be doing what I’m doing, but hopefully I’ll be doing more of it,” Markus said.

Markus continues to report to Joyce King Thomas, who will take over the chief creative officer position from Nina DiSesa by the end of the year.

Markus is the second ecd King Thomas has named in the past two weeks. Bill Oberlander will join McCann as ecd from Ogilvy & Mather, where he was also ecd, on Dec. 1. Steve Ohler and Irwin Warren are the shop’s two other executive creative directors.
